Interview with Franz Nicolay – Podcast 119

Posted by rich on April 27, 2010

Thanks for checking in.  We’re back with a brand new show featuring everyone’s favorite mustachioed musician, Franz Nicolay.  Along with being a fantastic reason to use the phrase, “mustachioed” Franz is a hell of a musician.  He’s probably more known for his work with The Hold Steady and The World/Inferno Friendship Society but before he was the wizard on the keyboard he was a solo artist.  Recently, he’s returned to the frontman role with two solo releases, Major General and St. Sebastian of the Short Stage.  We had the chance to sit down and talk about his former projects, his solo releases, touring Redding, CA and even tap dancing.  It’s pretty much everything you could ask for from a man of Franz’ caliber.

No new shows this week, but we are still running the NoBunny contest from last week.  Be sure to check it out for your chance to win Love Visions on LP.  I’ll be bringing our brand of shenanigans and interviews to Punk Rock Bowling this year, so hopefully we’ll get some good content out of that.  Be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolutionb[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or our comments section.  And follow us on Twitter at Twitter.com/Soundscenerev.  And remember, “What if John Kennedy had said, ‘Ich bin ein Berliner,’ in Spanish?”

Interview with Underground Communique Records – Podcast 112

Posted by rich on November 24, 2009
Sorry we missed last week.  Actually, Sound Guy Nariman didn’t miss last week.  He was all amped and ready to go, but I was out with some awful Sars/Swine Flu hybrid.  Well, I’m back and so is our special Fest coverage.

This week we sat down with label head, pizza enthusiast and all around awesome guy, Justin of Underground Communique Records.  Justin has helped put out a ton of records from amazing bands like Olehole (a personal favorite), The Methadones, The Copyrights, Get Rad, Shot Baker and Capital (just to name few).  But more than just being a suit and a corporate big wig, Justin is a dude who loves music and who’s love is so infectious that you can’t listen to him talk without becoming nostalgic for when you first got into music.  That’s because Justin has that same excitement most people have when they first started listening to punk, only he’s way older (like seriously old) and it’s amazing to see someone with that kind of passion and dedication after so many years of involvement.

Take a listen and see all that Justin has to say, and whatever bullshit I can churn out.  Also, we have an exclusive and previously unreleased song, curtsy of Justin and his fine label.  So check that out.  Be sure to send us your thoughts, suggestions and questions at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or now on Twitter at www.twitter.com/SoundSceneRev.  And remember, “When you look at these gender-confused, haphazard freakazoids then you can plainly see that america is DOOMED, for real!”  Stay classy America.

Interview with Fake Problems – Podcast 97

Posted by rich on May 26, 2009

We took a short leave of absence to rework the site and backlog some shit.  Now, even if we die, this show will live on in the internets, forever!  Feel free to search, or just browse our old shit (and thank Sound Guy Nariman for his hours of work on this bitch).  We also got a sweet logo drawn up by Adam D (you may know him from Link-80/Desa and for being a rad dude and host of the “Break This City” podcast).  If you like it, you can check out more of Adam’s work here, http://xadamdx.blogspot.com/.

Anyhow, on to the show.  We got a fun interview with Derek and Chris of Fake Problems.  We’ve had these guys on a couple of times and everytime they’ve been fun and informative (plus they’re my friends…I believe in playing favorites).  It’s really fun to watch a band develop from a group of kids with a couple 7-inches and some songs to a full fledged band that has two full lengths and tours non-stop.  This time we caught up with the boys after their first show with William Elliot Whitmore and after a drunken celbration for Chris’ birthday…good times!

We hope to keep the updates coming steadily for a while so drop us a line and let us know who you think we should talk to or what we should do.  Just send that shit to SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace, or in the commnets section.  Shit’s tight son!

Interview with Look Mexico – Podcast 85

Posted by rich on October 21, 2008

We might actually manage two updates in a row folks! I know, I’m not only surprised but a bit disappointed in the slacker in me. I guess he just didn’t have what it took to miss another week. Anyhow, if we’re gonna be unlazy we might as well go big and have an interview with and awesome band, Look Mexico. These kids are actually from Florida, so I don’t even think they can see Mexico…So maybe there’s a metaphor in there, who knows? They get compared to American Football a lot (the band not the sport that harbors dog fighters), and that can’t be a bad thing. So enjoy the songs and the interview.

No new contest this week but we did wrap up the Against Me! Self-titled 12″ EP contest. So listen to find out if you won, and then start writting me to complain that your prize isn’t arriving fast enough.

We should have new interviews for the next couple of weeks and then I’ll be up in the Fest so I should have a ton of worthless drunken rambelings for you to enjoy. Till then feel free to write us at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on Myspace or here in our comments section. I know you’re out there (we track our hits) so say something you creep perverts.

P.S. I had no intentions of soley using songs from Look Mexico’s new EP Gasp Asp, but it’s so good I had to. Buy this shit today on Steve Job’s iTunes!

Interview with Lemuria – Podcast 80

Posted by rich on August 19, 2008

Hey y’all! Sorry for the lag time on updates, there was a wedding and I was out of town and…Whatever, I don’t owe you an excuse. You’re not my real mom anyway.

We have a fun interview with Lemuria this week but it’s not our usual style. As opposed to just letting me destroy the interview, I thought I’d let our good friend and punknews editor, Justin, take the helm of this one. Basically, he’s a bigger Lemuria fan than I am and I wasn’t prepared for the interview. Shit goes off as Jeff of Bomb the Music Industry! shows up and general awesomeness ensues.

No give a ways this week but something in the next two weeks (I promise). Anyhow, enjoy and hit us up at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on Myspace or in the comments and remember, “I am a rooster illusion”.

Interview with Fake Problems – Podcast 78

Posted by rich on May 6, 2008

Alright, I get it, I suck! How can we honestly have these interviews in the can and yet not post them? Is it life? Work? Women? Stomach Flu? Probably not. I just can’t think of new and funny stuff to write. So I bail.

Regardless, we soldier on like soldiers soldiering through something. This week we have our friendly little brothers Fake Problems on the show. We spoke with these kids a while back but figure that after a full length and a 7″ release since we last spoke it would be a good idea to touch base. We spoke with guitarist/vocalist Chris and guitarist/owner of Good Friends Records, Casey. These kids have a future so bright they gotta wear shades (or is that to hide the red eyes?) and it doesn’t hurt that Chris dresses like a tiny Mr. Rogers.

Also, we have a brand new ENTER TO WIN!!! where you can land a copy of the Fake Problems first 7″, Spurs and Spokes, on white vinyl. This shit is rare and out of print as a muthafucka so don’t miss out. Also, send us some love or spam at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on Myspace or right here on our comments.
Sidenote: John McCain finished in the bottom 5 of his graduating class. Moral? Study or the Vietcong will whoop your ass.

Interview with The Lawrence Arms – Podcast 62

Posted by rich on July 24, 2007

So, to the dismay of many of our fan, we are taking a break form the shit heap that is Warped Tour interviews to bring you something totally different, a band that was banned from Warped Tour, The Lawrence Arms. Actually, we’ll be running a few Asian Man Records interviews, in conjunction with their 11th Anniversary.

If you don’t know who the Lawrence Arms are by now I highly suggest you Google the city of Chicago and filter through the stories until you find them, go ahead, we’ll wait…So sit back and enjoy the tasty goodness as Chris, Brendan and Neil talk about Cornish Gay Men, concept albums, and why Brendan took the mic into the toilet during the interview. It’s a good (totally naked) time had by all.

Additionally, we’ll have a brand new ENTER TO WIN!!! featuring a variety of Asian Man releases. One winner gets a copy of both Dan Potthast albums, Lawrence Arms’ Cocktails and Dreams, the rerelease of Alkaline Trio’s Goddamnit, plus some other fun stuff. So listen and figure out how to get free crap!

Stay tuned until next week when we have more awesome stuff. And feel free to drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or in the comments section. And remember…freedom is on the March…and the May.

Interview with Fake Problems – Podcast 55

Posted by rich on April 17, 2007

Sorry, it’s been a week or two but we’ve been really swamped with things here in the real world (or Meat World). But we’re back with a great new interview with Fake Problems. These four crazy kids from Florida play a great mix of punk and country. You’ll totally want to listen as the boys talk about music, religion and beating the shit out of each other with spoons. Trust me it’s fun.

NEW CONTEST!:
One lucky winner will win a Fake Problems 7″ and a t-shirt (large). Listen to learn how to enter to win. Also, send us all your internet thoughts at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, MySpace or on the comments section. Be good or we’ll sick the dogs on you.

Interview with Whiskey Sunday – Podcast 44

Posted by rich on December 19, 2006

So we’re just about to take a break for the holidays BUT before we do that we feel that we should leave the show on a high note. Unfortunately, as we couldn’t find a really good band, we leave you with Whiskey Sunday. I’m just kidding. But really folks, Whiskey Sunday is comprised of five San Jose locals who take kindly to hard rocking and hard drinking. They’ve been compared to Leather Face and Hot Water Music…and that ain’t too damn bad!

As for what this interview entails, well that’s kind of hard to say. We do talk about music, The Fest and split 7″ but that’s only scratching the surface of this twistedly deep band. We had to cut a large part of this interview because it was just too damn odd. Well, that and you couldn’t hear anything above Dover’s drunken screaming.

What more can you want? Oh, Free Shit? You better believe we talked to Eric, of Whiskey Sunday, and he promised to hook some lucky winner up with some sick Whiskey Sunday gear, you might even get a free shirt, everyone loves that! Just listen to the last eight minutes (or so) to learn how to ENTER TO WIN!!! Also, you can always contact us at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or on the comments section.

Enjoy the new year bitches!

Interview with The Draft – Podcast 37

Posted by rich on October 3, 2006

So, here it is another week and another blog I’m late in submitting so Sound Guy Nariman can’t post our new episode. Seriously, this shit was edited last week and the only reason it was held up is that I’m a dumb ass. Anyhow, for those of you who aren’t 14 year olds being sexually solicited by members of the GOP we have an exciting new episode this week where we sit down with Chris from The Draft. You know, that band that’s 80% members of Hot Water Music. Oh, you heard? Well did you know that we had an interview with Chris, The Draft’s frontman? Yeah, next time just wait till you get all the details before you make an ass of yourself.

Anyways, not only do we have an interview but we have a chance to ENTER TO WIN a copy of the Draft’s debut CD In a Million Pieces and a t-shirt (the free shirt is a large so if you don’t fit a large it makes an awesome gift). So be sure to listen to the last 8 minutes or so of the show to get details on how to enter. So enjoy the interview, where you can learn if The Draft has an affinity for Oprah’s book of the month club or if they just like little candy sprinkles.
