Interview with No Friends – Podcast 101

Posted by rich on July 7, 2009

Taking now down time from our 100th epic show (and celebration) we’re jumping straight into 101!   This week we have a special show featuring Tony, vocalist of No Friends (and some other band call Municipal Waste).  We had a chance to talk to Tony about working with a new band, fitting in with part of the New Mexican Disaster Squad dynamic and how to work in two awesome bands.  Plus, we have some awesome new songs from No Friends not yet released LP.

We’ll have some hot new contests and interviews in weeks to come.  I’ll be live and at Warped Tour this weekend…So get ready for disappointment.  Feel free to send us suggestions or feedback to SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace or here in our comments section.  And remember, “People think I’ve changed. I have changed. We’ve been dealing a long time with this,” – Clown Car Vagina.

The Best of Show Part 2 – Podcast 100

Posted by rich on June 16, 2009

I want to personally welcome you all to our 100th show.  I’m not gonna lie, this shit wasn’t easy.  You know that expression, “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”?  What they don’t tell you about it is you’ll never work a day in your life because no one will pay you to do that shit.  It’s been a costly effort and taken time, money and our social lives but we wouldn’t change a thing.  Well, maybe that money part…I like money.

Anyhow, for our 100th show, we thought we’d all bring it back to when we were young, fresh faced and still trying to be good at this and what better way than a clip show?  No better way god damn it, no better way.  So we start off with the show that aired immediately after our last clip show (show 10), with Push to Talk (R.I.P.) and take it all the way through some of our favorite moments of the last 89 shows.  We’ll touch base with favorites like The Lawrence Arms and lesser noticed (but equally great) moments with bands like New Mexican Disaster Squad.  It’s been a zany ride and we have the audio to prove it.

If you thought something should have made the cut or just want to say “what’s up” send us your thoughts at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on myspaces or here in our comments.  We’ll be back next week with new content, and soon the inevtiable “Warped Tour” Series.  I normally close with some silly topical quote but I won’t let Sarah Palin sully our milestone.  Just remember, we are, hands down, the best goddamn podcast on earth.  Period.

Interview with Olehole – Podcast 99

Posted by rich on June 9, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen,
I present you episode 99.  That’s right.  We’ve stumbled, fumbled and otherwise facefucked our way through 98 other episodes, and currently stand here, on edge of history overlooking all we have done.  From here I can not only see my house, but also the corpses of all of our enemies…Or maybe those are just my dreams…or my dozens of cellphones that can’t seem to last more than a week.  Basically, shit is high and crazy impressive.  Be impressed.

For our 99th show we decided to pull from a local band who offered up one of the best albums of 2008, Olehole.  These guys rock hard in the vein of Fugazi and other bands that aren’t Fugazi (I’m a god damn poet).  They were nice enough to let us talk at them, even thought I had no notes at all for the interview (if you listen you can here Jackson discovering my notebook is empty).  Anyhow, check out the interview and get some damn culture.

We’ll be back next week with our special 100th episode, where we bring you some of the hits.  Feel free to contact us with your suggestions for show 100.  Drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or here in the comments section and remember, “Pres Obama you got nerve while u sightseeing in Paris to tell us”time to deliver” on health care. We still on skedul/even workinWKEND”.

Interview with Anchor Down – Podcast 98

Posted by rich on June 2, 2009

This week we had the great opportunity to sit down with a fantastic new band from the Oregon area, called Anchor Down.  If you’re not familiar with the band you need to do two things 1) kick yourself for not checking them out sooner (and because you’re a dick) 2)pick up their debut EP Steel to Dust.  These guys bring a great mix of that Midwestern punk with a lot of west coast melody.  They’re super good and should be keeping themselves busy in the coming months, so you’ll have more to hear soon.

As for your listening pleasure this week, not only do we have a new show but a brand new contest for you to enter to win!  You can win a CD copy of Anchor Down’s debut EP Steel to Dust as well as a bitching Anchor Down Shirt (size medium).  This week’s prizes are donated the fact that I don’t keep CD’s and by my inability to properly order a large shirt on line. So check it out and be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace or here in the comments section.  And remember, no one makes better decisions than white males, no one!

Interview with Fake Problems – Podcast 97

Posted by rich on May 26, 2009

We took a short leave of absence to rework the site and backlog some shit.  Now, even if we die, this show will live on in the internets, forever!  Feel free to search, or just browse our old shit (and thank Sound Guy Nariman for his hours of work on this bitch).  We also got a sweet logo drawn up by Adam D (you may know him from Link-80/Desa and for being a rad dude and host of the “Break This City” podcast).  If you like it, you can check out more of Adam’s work here, http://xadamdx.blogspot.com/.

Anyhow, on to the show.  We got a fun interview with Derek and Chris of Fake Problems.  We’ve had these guys on a couple of times and everytime they’ve been fun and informative (plus they’re my friends…I believe in playing favorites).  It’s really fun to watch a band develop from a group of kids with a couple 7-inches and some songs to a full fledged band that has two full lengths and tours non-stop.  This time we caught up with the boys after their first show with William Elliot Whitmore and after a drunken celbration for Chris’ birthday…good times!

We hope to keep the updates coming steadily for a while so drop us a line and let us know who you think we should talk to or what we should do.  Just send that shit to SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace, or in the commnets section.  Shit’s tight son!

Interview with Two Cow Garage – Podcast 96

Posted by rich on April 21, 2009

I am unbelieveably stoked about this weeks show. Yes all my shows are my babies and I love them all but everyone has a kid that’s a little better than the others. The Baldwins have Alec. The Jacksons have Michael. The Lohan’s even have…Nevermind. Point is this show is great. Not only do we have a great band but an amazing contest.

So who and what is it? The band is Columbus, Ohio’s very own Two Cow Garage. These guys are amazingly rocking and (as it turns out) insanely nice. I would recomend them for anyone who likes country, rock or just not sucking. The prizes were donated lovingly by Virgil Dickerson, of Suburban Hom and Vinyl collective. And we gots three of them shits! First Prize: a Speaking in Cursive deluxe pack, which has Two Cow Garage’s latest album Speaking in Cursive on vinyl and CD, a pint glass and a t-shirt! Second place: a copy of Speaking in Cursive on CD and vinyl. Third place: Speaking in Cursive on CD. That’s a metric shit ton of prizes and you just have to enter to learn how to win!

I want to thank Two Cow Garage for taking the time to talk to us, Virgil for setting up the awesome prizes, and you for giving us a reason to do this. You can drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or in the comments sections. And remember, tea parties are for bitches.

Interview with Frank Turner – Podcast 95

Posted by rich on April 14, 2009

This week we have a very special show. We asked a lot of you to write in and you did (and not just to ask who Ryan from OWTH was talking about). One of the many suggestions we received was that we interview singer/songwriter Frank Turner. Well, we were gonna do it any way but it’s nice to know that people want to hear it.

We sat down with Frank over a lovely (and romantic) dinner at Pizz’a Chicago and then I got good and trashed and made an ass of myself at his show. Frank is a really nice guy and someone you’re going to be hearing a lot more from in the future. This is a good way to act ubber elitist and act like you heard of him first.

Enjoy the show and get stoked for next week, when we’ll be unleashing a new killer contest on your ass. In the meantime, feel free to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace or here in our comments section.
Thanks,
Rich

Interview with Off With Their Heads – Podcast 94

Posted by rich on April 7, 2009

We took a break…Sort of. It’s a good news band news situation. The bad news is I’m getting increasingly lazy. Driving 60 miles to interviews, editing and posting shows is just getting to be a lot of work. The good news is we’re planning to post at least 25 shows this year (hopefully more). Sorry if that’s not up to snuff but it’s just getting harder for find bands to get excited about interviewing and all that. We promise not to just up and quit. We’ll burn out in a smoldering ball of mediocrity before we go up in flames.

This week we talk with the fine folks of Off With Their Heads. This was during the Thorns of Life show in Berkeley and I couldn’t avoid throwing a few shots at Blake and Co. Don’t take it personally, I’m sure they’re all do damn busy being flooded by tons of fans to give a damn about what I have to say anyhow. So just enjoy the show. Oh, there are a few “beeps” on this show…They’re there for no good reason and you don’t need to know about it.

Interview with Propagandhi – Podcast 93

Posted by rich on March 3, 2009

Welcome back, have a seat, take a load off. Why do you have a load anyway? What are you, some old timey mine worker? Speaking of old timey, we have an interview with Chris Hannah, frontman and general badass from Propagandhi. The fine foursome from Winnepeg are getting ready to release their fifth album in 40 years, Supporting Caste. The boys are really excited for this one and Chris has a ton of things to talk about from the new album, to the hiatus of G7 Welcoming Comittee and even a bit about politics (really a rare topic for Propagandhi). So check it out and hear bits of their new album that 99% of your friends already downloaded.

Also, we’re going to continue running our 1-2-3-4-Go! Records contest, so check that shit out to learn how to enter to win. And always feel free to send us some stuff at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on myspace or in the comments section. And remember “They have destroyed poor families by breaking up those families, by offering welfare checks to women to keep having babies, no more father needed”

Interview with 1-2-3-4 Go! Records – Podcast 92

Posted by rich on February 24, 2009

After a super extended holiday break we’ve returned with all of the your favoriteness that you’ve come to expect! I’ll take the blame for the break, I got used to not doing tons of thankless work and not receiving e-mails from people who hate me and want to do nothing more than needlessly criticize me. I’m sorry, it won’t happen again (P.S. It’s totally gonna happen again).

To welcome you back we have an interview with the head hancho and lead man of 1-2-3-4-Go! Records, Stevo (maybe he has a last name, I don’t know. Maybe it’s “O”. Like he’s Steven Jenkins Oh. That would make the “Oh” Face joke so much better for him, also it means I’d see his mother’s “Oh” Face a lot). Stevo is a super rad dude who has been running one of the best labels in the Bay Area, releasing everything from Pop punk to crazy rock and even some folk type shit. Also, he’s full of crazy stories and useless information. If you’re a fan of anything ever, you’ll want to listen to what Stevo has to say.

Also, we have a brand new contest for not one, not four but three releases from 1-2-3-4-Go! Records. Listen to the end of the broadcast and you can learn how to enter to win copies of Nobunny’s Love Visions, Git Some’s Cosmic Rock, and The Ringers Detention Hall. That’s like $20 worth of shit…FOR FREE!! So check it out and be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or in the comments section. And remember, “Thank you very much. Everyone’s crying, and now I have to go on.”
