Interview with The Lawrence Arms – Podcast 62

Posted by rich on July 24, 2007

So, to the dismay of many of our fan, we are taking a break form the shit heap that is Warped Tour interviews to bring you something totally different, a band that was banned from Warped Tour, The Lawrence Arms. Actually, we’ll be running a few Asian Man Records interviews, in conjunction with their 11th Anniversary.

If you don’t know who the Lawrence Arms are by now I highly suggest you Google the city of Chicago and filter through the stories until you find them, go ahead, we’ll wait…So sit back and enjoy the tasty goodness as Chris, Brendan and Neil talk about Cornish Gay Men, concept albums, and why Brendan took the mic into the toilet during the interview. It’s a good (totally naked) time had by all.

Additionally, we’ll have a brand new ENTER TO WIN!!! featuring a variety of Asian Man releases. One winner gets a copy of both Dan Potthast albums, Lawrence Arms’ Cocktails and Dreams, the rerelease of Alkaline Trio’s Goddamnit, plus some other fun stuff. So listen and figure out how to get free crap!

Stay tuned until next week when we have more awesome stuff. And feel free to drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or in the comments section. And remember…freedom is on the March…and the May.

Interview with Shinobu – Podcast 13

Posted by rich on January 24, 2006

So, another week, another amazing new artist. This week we sat down in our studio (oh that’s right bitches we have a studio more on that later) with the South Bay’s very on Shinobu. Now, I came across these guys on one of the overly awesome Springman Records compilations. I was really impressed by their music and I was really surprised to learn they weren’t signed or bigger than they were. I knew it was our mission to sit down, interview and exploit Shinobu for all they’re worth before they blow up. So in a year’s time, when these guys are blowing up like your girlfriends waistline, you’ll know where you heard them first.

As for what it was like talking to them, I was really surprised. For making such rocking music they’re all pretty normal. Well, as normal as you can be for a band named after an anime cartoon that also has a member who is a video game tester. Still, you’re more likely to find these guys hanging out at your local arcade or midnight movie than at some awesome club or swarmed by groupies. Also, they love porn. Seriously, I think the topic of porn comes up no less than about 30 times in this interview, it’s insane.

In other news, we actually do have a studio…Well, sort of. See Nariman (the killer sound guy/sex symbol) runs a business that requires a warehouse and he’s nice enough to let me bring this fuck up of an experiment into the office. So if you want us to interview your band but you’re afraid we’ll stalk you, now you can come to our office and we’ll never know where you live! So now you bitches have no excuse for not talking to us, unless you’re too busy sucking ass to talk to us. So if you’re interested or if you just want to spread some love, hit us up at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, or on our messages board or even on our killer MySpace account. You know you want to so don’t even fight the urge.

More updates next Tuesday so listen up or miss what everyone will be talking about next week.

Interview with Mike Park – Podcast 4

Posted by rich on November 1, 2005

Before we kick this week off I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Belated Halloween. This is clearly one of the best holidays, featuring no crappy religious overtones and offering free candy. I hope everyone had a great time, and didn’t get too drunk and/or stuffed with candy and pumpkin related food items.

So this week we shared couch space with the legendary “nice guy” Mike Park. Before we dive into this interview let me say, Mike seems to be more of a “normal” than a “nice” guy. That isn’t to say he’s mean but he doesn’t come off as trying to be overtly nice. More than anything Mike Park just seems at ease with himself and his surroundings. He seemed to treat us with great respect and talked to us like people and not some nerds trying to conduct a silly interview. Perhaps that’s the discrepancy; Mike Park is a genuinely good human not merely some “nice guy”.

Anyhow, enough philosophical crap. Along with being easy to get along with Mike has some great stories and even better causes, all of which we talk about in here. Please check out Asian Man Records and Plea for Peace, both companies are worthy of your money, I promise.

In a somewhat related issue, in this interview I make mention of Springman Records having some difficulties. I have no urge to start internet rumor mills turning, but I will say my extent of Springman’s problems come from their distributor issues (which they’ve talked about) and a message board conversation with Avi (seen here). I do not know how the label is doing at this exact moment but I certainly wish them all the best.

So be sure to catch us next week when we should have an interview with one of Fat Wreck Chords newest bands Western Addiction. Until then please feel free to hit us up at soundscenerevolution@gmail.com, or on or comments section.
