We here at Sound Scene Revolution have always prided ourselves on taking risks and breaking the molds. When most people looked to terrestrial radio, we took to the internet. When most people look to top 40 music, we look to underground artists. When most people said you need to bath at least once a week...You get the idea. Today, we continue our fine tradition of non-tradition by premiering not one, but two new shows, featuring not two but one band! That's right, Oakland/San Jose/Santa Cruz's world famous Gnarboots spent so much time explaining their sounds, spreading otherworldly lies and doing Boys II Men songs that it couldn't make it into one interview. So, instead of painstakingly stressing over the best 20 to 30 minutes we just threw the whole mess down (binary style) for you to enjoy. So check out what is legitimately one of the longest and strangest interviews we've ever done, with one of the strangest bands out there.

Thanks for checking in. We’re back with a brand new show featuring everyone’s favorite mustachioed musician, Franz Nicolay. Along with being a fantastic reason to use the phrase, “mustachioed” Franz is a hell of a musician. He’s probably more known for his work with The Hold Steady and The World/Inferno Friendship Society but before he was the wizard on the keyboard he was a solo artist. Recently, he’s returned to the frontman role with two solo releases, Major General and St. Sebastian of the Short Stage. We had the chance to sit down and talk about his former projects, his solo releases, touring Redding, CA and even tap dancing. It’s pretty much everything you could ask for from a man of Franz’ caliber.

Interview with NoBunny - Podcast 118

Thanks so much for taking the time to check back in with us at SSR. I feel like every new episode I post an apology for taking so long to update. Hopefully, we have enough to keep going for a while, but none of that matters today. What matters is that we have a brand new show with Oakland’s own NoBunny! I’m never going to claim to be well educated in garage rock, or lo-fi buzz or anything like that but what I can say is NoBunny rocks. As if being a complete musical anomaly wasn’t good enough, the guy is also funny and strange as hell to talk to. So check it out if you want all the scoop on the artist Jay Reatard said put out the best album of 2009.

We also have a chance to win a fancy vinyl copy of NoBunny’s LP, Love Visions. I could not be happier to bring you this weeks guest and show. We actually conducted this interview later in the evening after last weeks interview, with Touche Amore. After leaving the venue, we caught Hour of the Wolf at Comadre's place (well Jack Shirley's place), and they were totally nice enough to chat with us. At this point I had a bit to drink and was probably misstating a few facts. So if something is wrong, my bad.

For those who don't know Hour of the Wolf is a completely rad hardcore band from Arizona, who oft get compared to hardcore pioneers The Misfits (the original, not whatever they are now). These guys are from LA and they play some old school emo/hardcore/I hate Genres. **CAUTION**: This week's show starts out loud and annoying and gets better from there.

This is gonna be short and sweet. This is our Holiday Edition and we thought we'd do something better than cobble together some bullshit clips of the least awful things we've done in the last year. So here's the skinny. Satureday, October 31, 2009 (the second day of The Fest) Sound Guy Nariman, Justin of punknews and myself, hosted a small acoustic gathering in our hotel in Gainesville, Florida. The line up for this show was constantly changing due to schedule conflicts, sickness and just plan drunkenness but at the last minute we pulled together three amazing artists, PJ Bond, Aaron Scott (of Attica! Attica!, Ex-Marathon), and Tom May (of the Menzingers). No set lists were planned and no one really knew how it would go. In the midst of our poor planning, Sound Guy Nariman had the forethought to record the whole thing. That recording is presented here, in its entirety, including banter, tuning and people yelling drunkenly at the performers. It's not anything close to perfect, but who said music was supposed to be perfect?

Interview with Cobra Skulls - Podcast 114

This week we post and interview with a band I've been a fan of for sometime now. Over two years and 50 podcasts ago we sat down with the members of Cobra Skulls. At the time they had a couple of EP's and a split 7" under their belt and were getting ready for their first full length. Since then the band has had a whirlwind of activity, releasing two full lengths, a 7" and a split 7" with Andrew Jackson Jihad, not to mention touring the world and giving up any permanent residency. It's been a busy couple of years and we wanted to catch up, so we got lucky enough to nail Devon to a chair for a few minutes to chat. It was great not only to catch up with a band I've been following over the years but also to see how much they've changed. When I first talked to them the band seemed almost overwhelmed that anyone would even listen to them. A couple years later they seem to have come to terms with it and used their new voice to help bring change they really believe in. And if that doesn't do it for you, I think we also make some dick and fart jokes.

Also this week, we're opening up a new contest for a copy of the Cobra Skulls new album, American Rubicon, on a lovely 12" vinyl record. It's some sort of colored vinyl but I don't really know which color...IT'S A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE!!! Interview with The Forensics - Podcast 113

After a week of stuffing ourselves with over sized fowl and braving hordes of meth addicted soccer moms at Wal-Mart at 3am, we're back to bring you the best and last installment of our Fest interviews. This week we sat down with Brent Eyestone and his band mates in Forensics. For those not in the know, Brent is the label overlord of Magic Bullet Records, an amazing label that boasts releases from This Will Destroy You, Doomriders, Austin Lucas and a ton more. Forensics is the awesome rock band that Brent fronts (I know right, so talented). They're somewhere between Kelly Clarkson and mid 2000's Green Day (and they covered the Gin Blossoms' "Hey Jealousy" at the Fest in 2008 [yeah it ruled]). While I wasn't quite prepared to interview the whole band (I mean, why would I actually want to be prepared for one of these things, ever), we cover everything from how the band got started, to the "revival" of vinyl, to playing live and even what it's like to run a vanity label (I kid). It's pretty awesome and the guys are incredibly candid (something I find in increasing scarcity in music these days).

Sorry we missed last week. Actually, Sound Guy Nariman didn't miss last week. He was all amped and ready to go, but I was out with some awful Sars/Swine Flu hybrid. Well, I’m back and so is our special Fest coverage.

This week we sat down with label head, pizza enthusiast and all around awesome guy, Justin of Underground Communique Records. Justin has helped put out a ton of records from amazing bands like Olehole (a personal favorite), The Methadones, The Copyrights, Get Rad, Shot Baker and Capital (just to name few). But more than just being a suit and a corporate big wig, Justin is a dude who loves music and who’s love is so infectious that you can’t listen to him talk without becoming nostalgic for when you first got into music. That’s because Justin has that same excitement most people have when they first started listening to punk, only he’s way older (like seriously old) and it’s amazing to see someone with that kind of passion and dedication after so many years of involvement.

Interview with O Pioneers!!! - Podcast 111

We have a special show for you this week. For over two years we've tried to nail down an interview with O' Pioneers!!!. At Fest 6 we missed connecting with them. On their tour up the west coast we were out of the state. At Fest 7, Eric was on hold for some photo shoot all weekend and we didn't hook up. On their last planned run up the West Coast, they canceled due to van difficulties. All during this time I've come to like Eric Solomon and his band more and more, and I became increasingly frustrated at our inability to interview them. Finally, at Fest 8, at 2am Monday morning, we got our chance. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think the timing and amount of alcohol I consumed that day, didn't effect this interview. Still, suck it up and enjoy.

Eric and O' Pioneers!!! are a good bunch of guys (mostly Eric as the band rotates every week [subpoint: BURN to you, current band members]). If you're not familiar with them, I'd recommend them for anyone who likes older Against Me!, Hot Water Music, or The Eagles (the animals, not the band). Their sound has always been kind of striped down (more out of neccesity I'd imagine) and is great for fans of raw, untethered rock.

Thank god Fest is over! I love that thing but I'm pretty sure it tries to kill me every year. Sound Crazy?! This year I have a black eye, a knot on my forehead and a cut on my face to prove it. I look like I was on the bad end of a prison rape (is there a good end?). Anyhow, the one piece of mind I have is that this weeks show features the one group of people who probably fared worse than me, Dillinger 4! However, we did do this show a couple weeks before Fest, when they came to San Francisco, but c'mon, you really think they'll all be sober enough to do an interview at Fest? Don't be an asshole, of course not!

If you don't know who Dillinger 4 is, Google "Paddy's balls". I think they also did something musical at some point but I've been wrong before. What is up peoples! In preparation for the eighth annual "The Fest" fest in Gainesville, we've posting a special episode featuring a band playing Fest you should all know and love, Comadre! Not only are these handsome fuckers playing The Fest, not only are they from my hometown of Redwood City, not only are they amazing, but I'm pretty sure some kid in my high school had a boy crush on Jack Shirley (who played in Anti-45 at the time). So figure that out!

For those who don't know about Comadre, let me help. Imagine Kid Dynamite and Refused, combined into a Hulk like creature that then had to fight its way out of a dance rock show. Sound good? Trust me, you'll want to hear what they got to say.

This week I'm really excited to bring you and interview with one of our most frequent and most loved guests. We first had Chicken on way way back when he was with Western Addiction. When we first heard about his new band, Dead to Me, I scrambled to get an interview as soon as possible. An EP and a second full length later, I sit down with him (as well as Nathan and Ian) to talk about regrouping the band, getting a new song writer and what it's like to really hate work. Interview with Low Red Land - Podcast 106

I could not possibly be more excited for this weeks show. I mean that, even if it came covered in chocolate and breasts or chocolate breasts. This week we talk with local artists/awesome dudes Low Red Land. I first caught these guys opening for William Elliot Whitmore and was instantly hooked. Their amazing blend of rock, punk and all things history is both engaging and exciting. It makes you feel smart without making you work for it.

Ben (bassist/vocals) has been absolutely tireless in being a rad dude. From thanking me for the review in punknews to ensuring we received the tracks from their latest EP for the show, he doesn't quit! So check these guys out on their current tour, or if you're lazy when they rock the shit out of The Fest 8 in Gainesville, Florida.

Interview with The Emotron - Podcast 105

This week we have an awesome and insane show featuring Kyle Knight, A.K.A. The Emotron. Knowing only of the Emotron and not Kyle I had no idea what to expect of this interview. For those of you who don't know, The Emotron is know for his antics including drinking Yoo-Hoo until he pukes, urinating on stage, and even lighting his genitals on fire. With all that it may be hard to believe that Kyle is a normal guy, but after talking to him that's exactly what I noticed. Kyle is as friendly and plesent as The Emotron is shocking and disturbing. And if that isn't enough to make you listen, you also get to hear cuts off of The Emotron's new album...And that shit is surprisingly good!

Interview with Attica! Attica! - Podcast 104

This week we have a very special episode. It's not often that I really feel like the show reaches people but this is one of those instances. A few weeks ago Aaron Scott (Attica! Attica!, Ex-Marathon) e-mailed us and asked if we might want to have him on the show. He listened to the No Trigger interview we did a while back where we gushed over Marathon and thought he might offer (mind you Aaron was totally humble and nearly embarrassed about seeming so presumptuous to assume that we must want to talk to him). Anyhow, we were beyond stoked to have the chance to talk to Aaron and the fact that he was a fan (as we were of his work) made it even more exciting.

For those of you who don't know Aaron's new band, Attica! Attica!, is him and a collection of artists playing songs that he's written over the course of his travels across the country. It's much different than Marathon, being more theatrical and boasting instruments from pianos to cellos and everything in between. Aaron is also crazy socially conscious (like her cares about a lot of things, not like he's some zany "stab a meat eater" dickweed) and happens to support a lot of worthy causes through both his music and his daily efforts. So, basically, he's really interesting and you'll really want to hear everything he has to say...seriously.

Interview with Echoes of Harper's Ferry - Podcast 103

So, we broke some big ground with the announcing of The Swellers signing to Fueled by Ramen, even if it didn't get posted until after the news was public knowledge. We decided to take this week to bring you a band you'll be hearing all about in the coming years, Echoes of Harper's Ferry. Imagine some sort of a line between Propagandhi, The Lawrence Arms and Hot Water Music. Pretty fucked up line, eh? Somewhere on that line exists Echoes of Harper's Ferry and it's a strange, scary and awesome place. Check it out as the band talks about being political, seeing bears and what it's like to think some bands are over hyped.

The Swellers...Sounds like it should be a porn title, right? Well it may be but it's also a collection of rocking dudes, including two brothers and a Canadian. Sounds like a recipe for a zany buddy comedy, right? Lots of questions this week, eh? Anyway, we caught up with these guys literally the day before they announced their signing to the epically huge music conglomerate Fueled by Ramen. As such, this is the last interview they ever did when they were punk. The Best of Show Part 2 - Podcast 100

I want to personally welcome you all to our 100th show. I'm not gonna lie, this shit wasn't easy. You know that expression, "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life"? What they don't tell you about it is you'll never work a day in your life because no one will pay you to do that shit. It's been a costly effort and taken time, money and our social lives but we wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe that money part...I like money.

Anyhow, for our 100th show, we thought we'd all bring it back to when we were young, fresh faced and still trying to be good at this and what better way than a clip show? No better way god damn it, no better way. So we start off with the show that aired immediately after our last clip show (show 10), with Push to Talk (R.I.P.) and take it all the way through some of our favorite moments of the last 89 shows. We'll touch base with favorites like The Lawrence Arms and lesser noticed (but equally great) moments with bands like New Mexican Disaster Squad. It's been a zany ride and we have the audio to prove it.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I present you episode 99. That's right. We've stumbled, fumbled and otherwise facefucked our way through 98 other episodes, and currently stand here, on edge of history overlooking all we have done. From here I can not only see my house, but also the corpses of all of our enemies...Or maybe those are just my dreams...or my dozens of cellphones that can't seem to last more than a week. Basically, shit is high and crazy impressive. Be impressed.

For our 99th show we decided to pull from a local band who offered up one of the best albums of 2008, Olehole. These guys rock hard in the vein of Fugazi and other bands that aren't Fugazi (I'm a god damn poet). They were nice enough to let us talk at them, even thought I had no notes at all for the interview (if you listen you can here Jackson discovering my notebook is empty). This time we caught up with the boys after their first show with William Elliot Whitmore and after a drunken celbration for Chris' birthday...good times!

I am unbelieveably stoked about this weeks show. Yes all my shows are my babies and I love them all but everyone has a kid that's a little better than the others. The Baldwins have Alec. The Jacksons have Michael. The Lohan's even have...Nevermind. Point is this show is great. Not only do we have a great band but an amazing contest.

So who and what is it? The band is Columbus, Ohio's very own Two Cow Garage. These guys are amazingly rocking and (as it turns out) insanely nice. Interview with Off With Their Heads - Podcast 94

We took a break...Sort of. It's a good news band news situation. The bad news is I'm getting increasingly lazy. Driving 60 miles to interviews, editing and posting shows is just getting to be a lot of work. The good news is we're planning to post at least 25 shows this year (hopefully more). Sorry if that's not up to snuff but it's just getting harder for find bands to get excited about interviewing and all that. We promise not to just up and quit. We'll burn out in a smoldering ball of mediocrity before we go up in flames.

This week we talk with the fine folks of Off With Their Heads. This was during the Thorns of Life show in Berkeley and I couldn't avoid throwing a few shots at Blake and Co. Don't take it personally, I'm sure they're all do damn busy being flooded by tons of fans to give a damn about what I have to say anyhow. So just enjoy the show. Remember when we did the Warped Tour show and I interviewed a ton of bands that I knew nothing about? Well, these next couple of weeks are nothing like that. I recently went to The Fest, in Gainesville, and had a chance to talk to some artists I've known and loved for a long time. First up is the amazing Austin Lucas.

Austin is a folk singer who used to (and still does occasionally) front crust and grind bands. Despite that odd history, Austin is very much a traditional folk musician. His father, Bob Lucas, played traditional folk and taught Austin the music as a child. Now that he's come into his own, Austin plays soulful folk, with enough punch to attract even the most jaded punk. Many people know Austin for his album with Chuck Ragan, Bristle Ridge, but Austin is very much a talented and accomplished musician in his own right. We might actually manage two updates in a row folks! I know, I'm not only surprised but a bit disappointed in the slacker in me. I guess he just didn't have what it took to miss another week. These kids are actually from Florida, so I don't even think they can see Mexico...So maybe there's a metaphor in there, who knows? Interview with Shannon Saint Ryan of The T4 Project - Podcast 81

This week we are running an older interview we did with Shannon Saint Ryan creator and main inspiration dude of the T4 project. Never heard of the T4 Project? True story, we've actually been airing episodes for the last three months and not telling you. Not only have we been airing them but they've been the best thing we've ever done. Hell you've probably even heard some and had no idea. You were probably like, "This podcast is so good! It's way better than Sound Scene Revolution". Well guess what? You're wrong! So just assume we're the best podcast and that anything better is probably us incognito (speaking of, am I the only one who thought it'd be funny if there was a gay X-Men called In-Magneto? Interview with Fake Problems - Podcast 78

Alright, I get it, I suck! How can we honestly have these interviews in the can and yet not post them? Is it life? Work? Women? Stomach Flu? Probably not. I just can't think of new and funny stuff to write. So I bail.

Regardless, we soldier on like soldiers soldiering through something. This week we have our friendly little brothers Fake Problems on the show. We spoke with these kids a while back but figure that after a full length and a 7" release since we last spoke it would be a good idea to touch base. We spoke with guitarist/vocalist Chris and guitarist/owner of Good Friends Records, Casey. These kids have a future so bright they gotta wear shades (or is that to hide the red eyes?) and it doesn't hurt that Chris dresses like a tiny Mr. Rogers.

It's true. I've finally run out of witty banter for these intros. Well, this one at least. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's just the sheer number we've done. Maybe it's the fact that I feel crippled by two straight days of diarrhea that can only be described as "godless".
Yeah, probably that last one.

Like that time in Michigan where we all passed out after the Journey reunion concert and you woke up as Donny was teabagging you. Just like that.

Well we followed up that joke with a new joke, our terrible interviews! Well, the subject (Ray of the magnanimous Teenage Bottlerocket) is funny and good, but I'd venture to say we're at a low point on our end. Not to mention we included bearded sheep merchant Justin, of Punknews.org. Guy sounds like Artie Lang if he were mentally challenged and raised by the cast of The Hills Have Eyes, he's also considered a sex symbol in no less than a dozen third world countries.

Leading off the charge are some hardcore kids who make up a band called Ruiner. These guys play a style of hardcore that, while not groundbreaking, is super intense and amazingly catchy. They may only have one full length under their belt (and it's barely a full length) but they rock like veterans. So listen, enjoy and rock out like you're in Nam.

In other (no scab) news we got to sit down with Chris and Brett of the band Last of the Believers. If the names sound familiar it's probably because Chris and Brett are common names. However, it's also because Chris used to be in Rise Against and Brett currently basses for Ignite. So trust me when I say Last of the Believers have a pedigree you need to hear to truly appreciate.

Interviews at Warped Tour 2007 (Part 1) - Podcast 61

So, a week back into shows and it seems like my writer's block has cleared up, yah! Unfortunately, you now have to (well I guess not "have to" but you should) listen to what is now known as "The Warped Tour shit-fest!". Not that I have anything against the Warped Tour, I mean we had to apply for press Pass, which in and of itself is 90% more work than we normally do. So we had to want to get in. However, once inside the Warped Tour press tent, we entered a land where time and space functioned in odd, unexplainable ways. A world where Big D and the Kids Table weren't listed on the interview schedule, but you could interview them if you asked the press lady about it. A world where that same press lady would continually feed you band after band of crap that you didn't request and you didn't know a thing about. In short, a world gone mad.

So out of the three interviews we wanted we got one. Still, we left with 7 interviews, that's 6 whole interviews filled with bands we don't know and people we don't know what to ask. So sit back and enjoy the awkwardness of entire interviews where I avoid asking bands about their music, because I don't know anything about them.

As far as contests go, we're not going to ask bands on Warped Tour, making no money, to give us free shit. Sorry, but we're not total assholes. But stay tuned for some real contests coming up soon. We should be back late May or early June but for now Sound Guy Nariman and myself are going to take some time to drink fruity drinks and do manly stuff. We kind of fell off the face of the earth for a little while so let me explain…We totally suck. Actually, we just wanted to make sure we had some good shows lined up. We hate taking weeks off as much as you hate late updates. The only thing we hate more than late shows is doing a show half assed. The band is none other than Denver, Colorado's best punk band of 2005, Love Me Destroyer (last years award went to Prince, go figure). If you're not familiar with Love Me Destroyer, you should be. They play a great blend of technical and melodic hard rock and they write a fucking killer power ballad.

We sat down with Scooter, Ryan and Cody to discuss their new album, Guitar Hero II, The Departed, threesomes with black chicks and trying new things with dudes. If you think you misread any of that, you didn't, it's just that crazy. This interview is equal parts hilarity, informational and offensive. It's like a naked potato sack race with the guys from NPR.

Interview with Defiance, Ohio - Podcast 52

I'm at the job so I'll keep this short (updating your blog is apparently only a small step up from looking at porn on the clock, according to company policy). This week we have a couple of special surprises. First, we have a rocking guest by the name of Geoff from Defiance, Ohio. They're a super awesome band that blends elements of folk and punk(ya know, folk-punk). If that doesn't do it for you picture Against Me!, This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, Woody Guthrie and four dudes who haven't showered in a while playing beach volleyball in the middle of October on some far off frozen tundra that is only inhabited by an indigenous population of crab people, while the soundtrack to The Sound of Music plays in the background and a team of Iron Chefs prepare a meal for the Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan using the secret ingredient of teeth pulled from the infant mouth of the Siberian White Tiger. Ya know something like that.

No matter what you compare them to Defiance, Ohio is one thing, good! And to add to this weeks goodness we have a special guest interviewer, Justin from Punknews.org . Unlike all the other times where he just chimes in with a question or two Justin actually takes the helm for this interview and steers this sinking ship of a podcast right into the coast of awesomeness! Of course this journey did take some 50 minutes so Sound Guy Nariman edged it down a bit for posting, but the full sized one should be up at sometime.

Interview with Tim Barry - Podcast 51

Hey all, just so ya know, we're not actually late with this post. See, this episode we have our second artist on Suburban Home Records, Tim Barry, in as many weeks. I had a blog all set and ready to post and then I read this. Needless to say I was stunned, especially considering how generously Virgil hooked us up with give-away stuff these past two episodes. Suburban Home has always been one of those labels that put out quality bands, maybe not bands that sold millions of albums but that always made good music. They've been nothing but nice to me (both in my dealings as a mail order customer and in the podcast), which may not seem too odd but trust me, most labels aren't too eager to help out a kid with a late order or some douche with a podcast. I really wish all the best to Virgil and everyone at Suburban Home/Dead Format/Vinyl Collective, these are the people who know what music is supposed to be about.

Much like Suburban Home is a dying breed of labels Tim Barry (this weeks guest) is a dying breed of musician. Tim isn't a guy who makes music for fame, fans, drugs and certainly not for money. Tim makes music for himself and maybe (and this is just my take on it) he does it to exorcise a few demons. After meeting Tim two things are clear; 1, his music is a brutally honest self portrait and 2, he's never going to be a rich man. So, check this interview out and hear how despair, hope and perseverance become music.

So here it is our 50th episode. It's like a birthday but it only took us about a year and a half to hit 50 as opposed to 50 years, so we're well aged, mature and dignified all without having to wear an adult diaper.

So I don't know if you noticed, but we were gone last week. Sorry, we have personal lives(not really but sort of) and we weren't able to get a show up BUT I promise we'll make it up to you. How? By giving you a rip roaring good time of an interview with everyone's favorite native Virginians, Avail!

We sat down with Beau Beau to ask the important questions, why. Why hadn't they come out west in 5 years? Why don't they have a new album? Why does Beau Beau have that insane goatee? And we got answers!...To most of them. But even if it's not super informative, it's super fun. So enjoy, as you listen to Beau Beau and I freeze to death in the Santa Cruz winter.

Well after starting off the New Year with a mediocre fizzle we've decided to kick things up a notch by bringing you a new, up and coming, state of the art, highly improved, version 30.6...you get the idea. So who could be worth all this praise? I'll give you a hint it's a band with members who have been in Tsunami Bomb, Enemy You and Time Spent Driving. If you guessed Nothington, you're absolutely magical!

Nothington is amazing for more reason than band association. These guys managed to go from their first show to the release of their first album in six months! Add to that the fact that they're the first new band on BYO Records in two years. Then multiply that by their music which is an awesome blend of beardcore and punk rock and you have an equation for awesome. Welcome back from your amazing holiday season. I hope you got all the meaningless material possessions you could ever ask for, and with any luck you got totally sloshed at least once and did something you'll regret. Baby Jesus would be proud.

Enough ape shittary, on to the stuff you came for, our exciting first interview of the New Year! We figured the best way to kick off the start to out amazingly mediocre podcast is with an amazingly mediocre band. But what band could be so bland as to meet our standards? We needed a band that not only lacked all creative abilities but also dressed like complete asshats. We could mean none other than Fat Wrecks world famous herpes sore Me First and the Gimme Gimmes!

Alright, so they aren't that bad but when a band makes so much fun of themselves it's hard not to join in. We had the dubious honor of sitting and talking with Joey Cape and Fat Mike while they pretty much took potshots at me the entire time.

NOTE: I would like to make two statements in my own defense
1)the comment I make about The Monkees being like the U.S. Beatles was a joke, though Fat Mike took plenty of shots at me over it.

2)When I mention the discarded album title Can't Quit You that the band seemed so confused about I read it in several places (Link), on the internet...way to not have my back internet.

So we're just about to take a break for the holidays BUT before we do that we feel that we should leave the show on a high note. Unfortunately, as we couldn't find a really good band, we leave you with Whiskey Sunday. I'm just kidding. But really folks, Whiskey Sunday is comprised of five San Jose locals who take kindly to hard rocking and hard drinking. They've been compared to Leather Face and Hot Water Music...and that ain't too damn bad!

As for what this interview entails, well that's kind of hard to say. We do talk about music, The Fest and split 7" but that's only scratching the surface of this twistedly deep band. We had to cut a large part of this interview because it was just too damn odd. Well, that and you couldn't hear anything above Dover's drunken screaming.

For those of you who don't follow our history, Sound Scene Revolution was originally created to focus on local, Bay Area, bands and underground artists. As we've been gaining popularity we continued to bring you underground artists but we've been slacking on the local artists, UNTIL NOW!!! This weeks show features a straight forward punk band who is both local and national AND rocks on several different levels. This could only be San Jose's very own The Forgotten.

For those not in "the know" The Forgotten is a Bay Area staple of old school punk rock, who will be celebrating their tenth anniversary in 2007. Though they've been inactive for a little while (due to other commitments and other bands), the boys are back and they're talking. So listen as we talk about every topic from San Jose's annually horrid "Downtown Ice" to Joe Strummer and a few things in between.

Interview with A Wilhelm Scream - Podcast 33

This week we have something even more exciting than a debacle in a ten year old murder case, that's right it's A Wilhelm Scream (not just an exciting sound effect). These Massachusans are not only the kings of soon to be pin up teen heart throbs, they're also one of the best young technical punk bands around. We got the chance to talk with Nuno and new bassist Brian (and knowing how this band goes through bassists this may be the only time you hear from him) about such fine topics as touring, being recognized at Best Buy and how awesomely unawesome Warped Tour is. We even took time to tackle the big issues regarding Dexter Holland and Anarchy Airlines!

So I hope you all spent your Fourth of July week soaking in the beauty that is American Freedom. Apparently there was also some big Kickball tournament or something too (I guess it was on ESPN 8 or Telemundo). However, that garbage is purely for those Un-American godless, third world, countries who need to pray to Jesus for the salvation of democracy.

Speaking of praying, I pray that you've heard of No Trigger who hail from Dudley, MA (which is technically America). Their latest album, Canyoneer, has been getting love from critics and audiences alike and they have a live show that packs enough energy to power one of the those heathen third world countries. We got to talk with Tom and Mike from the band, which by the way, is the names of 80% of the band (if you're doing the math that means two Tom's and two Mike's). These guys are not only really talented but funny as well (and cute as one of those buggley eyed kitten posters). So listen to this shit.

So for those of you who aren't busy mourning the fact that June 6 wasn't the apocalypse. we got something for your monkey ass. This week we get to sit down with a band that has played with everyone from Pigmy Love Circus to The Broadways. This week we're proud to bring you some time with the Windy City's own Cougars.

For those of you who don't know this band (and won't take the time to listen to the songs) I'll attempt to explain their sound. Cougars are similar to a violent death scene in a zombie movie or a baby seal getting clubbed to death. It's pounding, never extremely fast and it continues to bludgeon you till your eyes bleed (oh and they have horns too). And just like the finer things, like zombie flicks or seal skin slippers, their sound may not be for everyone. But, for those of us who like this music, it's second to none.

So, you're back, eh? Well, since you keep coming back, I guess we have to keep providing your lazy ass with stuff to listen to. This week's interview comes from a night of hard work (read as: sitting around the whole night as the band shuffled around the interview time). However, it was totally worth it as we got to sit down in the back of a van/truck/tour bus thing with Philadelphia's favorite stepsons, The Loved Ones.

For those of you who don't know, The Loved Ones are three totally awesome (and totally varying in height) guys who have played in several awesome bands (Paint it Black, Trial by Fire and The Curse). Somehow, through construction and a shared love of alcohol, they came together to form a band that blends heavy songs with pop melodies. Sure other bands have said they do that, but The Loved Ones actually do it. Oh, and they don't suck either.

Also, we don't have a new contest this week but we will be continuing last weeks Teenage Bottlerocket/Red Scare contest (as it has two winners it should take up two weeks, right?). Interview with La Plebe - Podcast 15

So, we've been on time for three weeks in a row, it's about time we fucked up again isn't it? Well too bad, because this week we have another killer band you're going to want to hear about. The band in question has not only toured the West Coast and Mexico and has plans to tour Europe. Not only are they the first bilingual band we've had on the show (remember ArnoCorps only sings in English). Not only do the rock hard enough to make your fat mom get up in dance. But, they also have a singer with a mowhawk that has to be at least 8 inches tall.

Who could possibly embody so much awesomeness and not distort this very plane of existence? None other than San Francisco's very own La Plebe (which according to some on-line translator means The Populace). These guys probably personify everything rocking about good music; wide array of influences, solid work ethic, awesome tattoos and if that ain't enough they also have horns! But don't confuse La Plebe for a ska band. These guys are nothing but straight ahead, balls out rock music. So give them a listen, if not for yourself than for the fact that you can tell your friends you're listening to a Latin influenced band (world music is all the rage amongst pseudo intellectuals these days). So just shut your mouth and listen and check out their shows. If you don't thank me for it later you're an unappreciative jerk.

Interview with Jason Webley - Podcast 14

So Happy Chinese New Year! Though I'm not Chinese I'd like to believe my insatiable love of their food would qualify for reason to cheer. Another reason to cheer is this week's interview with sing/songwriter/accordionist/vegetable rights activist Jason Webley. I've been a huge fan of Jason's work for the last few years so I leapt and grabbed at the opportunity to talk to him, even if it was in a shady basement, in a shady area of shady San Francisco (it was quite dark with all that shade).

Honestly though, I was super stoked about this interview. And what's cooler is I got to do it in nearly an ideal setting, the creepy basement of some hole-in-the-wall club that was illuminated solely by red lights. Sure it was a strange location but it seemed to ooze the perfect atmosphere for Jason. So trust me when I say that this is an interview you want to listen to if you're a fan of Jason Wesley or if you just want to hear a guy who's freakin' awesome.

Interview with Shinobu - Podcast 13

So, another week, another amazing new artist. This week we sat down in our studio (oh that's right bitches we have a studio more on that later) with the South Bay's very on Shinobu. Now, I came across these guys on one of the overly awesome Springman Records compilations. I was really impressed by their music and I was really surprised to learn they weren't signed or bigger than they were. I knew it was our mission to sit down, interview and exploit Shinobu for all they're worth before they blow up. So in a year's time, when these guys are blowing up like your girlfriends waistline, you'll know where you heard them first.

As for what it was like talking to them, I was really surprised. For making such rocking music they're all pretty normal. Well, as normal as you can be for a band named after an anime cartoon that also has a member who is a video game tester. Still, you're more likely to find these guys hanging out at your local arcade or midnight movie than at some awesome club or swarmed by groupies. Also, they love porn. Seriously, I think the topic of porn comes up no less than about 30 times in this interview, it's insane.

In other news, we actually do have a studio...Well, sort of. See Nariman (the killer sound guy/sex symbol) runs a business that requires a warehouse and he's nice enough to let me bring this fuck up of an experiment into the office. Interview with Street to Nowhere - Podcast 12

So, welcome back to the wonderful world of independent music and the slobs that bring it to you. This week we got to sit down with a delightful young man who you're bound to see on the front of your Teen People or Ym-18 or whatever kids magazines are called these days. I am referring, of course, to Dave, the lead singer and songwriter for Oakland based Street to Nowhere.

Now, I'll be honest when I say there was a good amount of initial hesitancy when Dave agreed to do the interview. Though I had heard good things about his band I was also aware that he was a very different artist than any we had featured on SSR. I was also aware (after attending a Street to Nowhere show January 4 th at Bottom of the Hill) he had a fairly large female following. Now, I have nothing against women I'm just of the belief that bands with primarily female followings tend to suck (see: any boy band, Fallout Boy, My Chemical Romance, GG Allin, you get the idea).

So what made me get over my initial hesitations and go through with this interview? The sheer need to have content for this week. However, I am incredibly glad I took the time to talk with Dave. I feel this interview sheds light on him not only as an artist but also as a real person. Dave seems really grounded and honest. Beyond that he seems to be in music for the right reasons, gold phones and crystal ears (you have to listen to get that joke). And after really listening to Streets to Nowhere's Charmingly Awkward, I've learned women may not have exclusively shitty taste in music. Not only are these guys an awesome band and a funny interview, not only do they have an album coming out on Doghouse Records and a national tour in the works BUT they played a show in front of Carson Daly. That's right people, Carson "T-R-Muthafucking-L" Daly. So really what more do you need or want?

The story behind this interview is that Push to Talk keyboardist (Brett) went to a little private school known as Junipero Serra in San Mateo. Here he played bass in a band called Spishak (with Nate of Push to Talk). They played shows, put out some albums, played with American Steel and then decided that oiling up dudes was more important than rock. I lost track of Brett for several years before I finally found he'd resurfaced with Push to Talk. Excited to utilize nepotism to fill up empty slots in our schedule we set up an interview. I didn't know at the time that I'd really end up liking the music that they play or that they'd be an awesome interview but I did and they are. So you should really listen, plus this interview may cure herpes (just like dianetics cures illness).

Interview with The Cliftons - Podcast 9

Happy Holidays!

Now that that's out of the way, we (the fine men who bring you SSR) have an early Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanza gift for you all (they do give gifts at Kwanza, right?). This week we bring you an interview with the Bay Areas own The Cliftons! So why is this special? Two reasons, the first being that it clocks in at record time. Since The Cliftons songs are just barely over a minute each, it's only fair that the whole interview is just over 14 minutes long. Scant by traditional SSR standards.

The second reason this broadcast is special is slightly more disturbing. Let's just say there is currently a long list of death row inmates who would consider The Cliftons music, "sick and fucked up". Needless to say it's even odder to hear it when the members are talking to your face without the distortion of guitars or "singing". That is why we ask you to take the following precaution: if you have children and plan to listen to this interview, please, kill them. Then they will never grow up having to live in a world where they know mommy or daddy listened to (and probably laughed at) this filth.

In all truth The Cliftons are a band that people either consider funny or stupid and offensive. Whether that is because one side "gets" the band or not we don't know. However, we believe these guys are hard working musicians who deserve any recognition they can get. There most likely won't be a new interview next week. We might, however, post a full download of songs from artists we've interviewed. This all depends on how lazy we are. Ladies and Gentlemen:

We here at SSR promised you a big, ground breaking interview this week. Today, we deliver on that promise. Our guest today is a member of a band that is known for being as elusive as they are hard rocking. But, through constant vigilance and a surprise ambush we nailed this exclusive. And today we share the fruits of our labor with you, in this exclusive interview with Propagandhi.

Well, I suppose not the whole band but rather the outspoken Jordy-boy of Propagandhi (AKA Jordy, AKA Jord). The whole thing came to be shortly after our interview with the previously mentioned Greg MacPherson. When we mentioned the request to talk with Propagandhi Greg happily helped us snag Jordy in our trap. Luckily, for us, Jordy was really cool and really polite about the whole thing. While this may not be our funniest interview to date it is certainly one of the most interesting and informative.

Also, if you got to see (or wanted to see) Propagandhi's tour down the west coast you may be interested in our interviews with other bands from that tour, including; Western Addiction, Greg MacPherson, and Jesse Luscious (Of The Frisk). Interview with Greg MacPherson - Podcast 7

Welcome back! After stuffing ourselves on turkey and celebrating national genocide we've decided to head on back with an out of country interview. That's right, we here at SSR just sat down with a real live Canadian. Not just any Canadian but Winnipeg's own Greg MacPherson. That's right, just before opening for Propagandhi on their Crimean Tour, Mr. MacPherson took a few minutes to sit down and humor us Southern Yanks.

This was actually Greg's very first time in California and it was our first time interviewing a Canadian. So, as you can imagine, there was a high degree of caution on both sides. However, as the interview went on both of us warmed up and ended up probably sharing more than we should of. Honestly, Greg is one of the nicest and most honest musicians I've ever met. This may explain my fast growing Man-crush that I have with him. None the less, I suggest you take the time to find out about one of Canada's most interesting and engaging artists. Please do not look him in the eyes though, lest he steal your soul and your heart.

To keep you interested, next week we should have one of our biggest guests to date. I only hesitate to name names for fear that God won't let us actually succeed in our task. Interview with ArnoCorps (The Greatest Interview of All Time) - Podcast 6

Well, fancy seeing you here again. So, in light of the recent "special" elections held in California we decided it was time to sit and talk with a political band. We thought long and hard about it and decided the best band to talk to about all things relating to our state, our governor and all things ballsy is "The Greatest Band of All Time" ArnoCorps.

But, how does one define ArnoCorps? To some who have only seen pictures, a gimmick band, perhaps. A group of adults who dress in fatigues and talk in Austrian accents. To those who have heard them, musicians. A band of guys who write good music with humorous lyrics that seemingly follow the plot of Schwarzenegger movies. But, to those who have seen them and experienced "The Pump", they are a band of god damn hero's who have come to save us from mediocre music with songs of ballsy defiance.

ArnoCorps not only plays every live show like their lives depend on rocking harder than hell, they also work to bring excitement to the atmosphere of the show. From the first band that plays ArnoCorps can be seen (in full uniform) drinking, singing, and dancing as every band before them plays. Between sets the band talks with fans and encourages everyone to enjoy the show as much as possible. And even if you don't approach them there is a good chance Holzfeuer my simply approach you.

I hope you enjoy the awesome insanity that is this interview, it is truly one of the most unique and humorous interviews I've been a part of. Interview with Western Addiction - Podcast 5

Another week, another fully ground breaking episode hear at SSR. We had the high honor of not only talking with a majority of the members in one of Fat Wreck Chords newest bands, but we also conducted said interview in Fat HQ. That's right, the multibillion dollar industry behemoth opened their doors to us and we even got a personal tour from Jason of Western Addiction. Let me just tell you now Fat HQ is pretty much just the way you would envision it, from the leopard and zebra print carpet, right down to the heated toilet seat in the otherwise unsuspecting restroom.

But enough giving you a peak at the high life (besides if you were important enough Fat would have let you into their inner sanctum). This interview is hands down my favorite in our short history. The guys in Western Addiction are funny, interesting, and most of all they can talk your ear off. Well, maybe not all of them, but certainly Chicken. In all honesty, this is a band I was really excited to talk to, and after talking to them I can see they are honest guys who really love what they do.

If you get the chance check them out live, since they have a bunch of shows coming up with Propaghandi (check their website). Also, if you're still not sure if you want to pick up their album check out the compilation Protect that they're on it's a good cause and it's cheap. Interview with Mike Park - Podcast 4

Before we kick this week off I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Belated Halloween. This is clearly one of the best holidays, featuring no crappy religious overtones and offering free candy. I hope everyone had a great time, and didn't get too drunk and/or stuffed with candy and pumpkin related food items.

So this week we shared couch space with the legendary "nice guy" Mike Park. Before we dive into this interview let me say, Mike seems to be more of a "normal" than a "nice" guy. That isn't to say he's mean but he doesn't come off as trying to be overtly nice. More than anything Mike Park just seems at ease with himself and his surroundings. He seemed to treat us with great respect and talked to us like people and not some nerds trying to conduct a silly interview. Perhaps that's the discrepancy; Mike Park is a genuinely good human not merely some "nice guy".

Anyhow, enough philosophical crap. Along with being easy to get along with Mike has some great stories and even better causes, all of which we talk about in here. Please check out Asian Man Records and Plea for Peace, both companies are worthy of your money, I promise.

In a somewhat related issue, in this interview I make mention of Springman Records having some difficulties. I have no urge to start internet rumor mills turning, but I will say my extent of Springman's problems come from their distributor issues (which they've talked about) and a message board conversation with Avi (seen here). I do not know how the label is doing at this exact moment but I certainly wish them all the best.

Interview with Jesse "Luscious" Townley - Podcast 3

So the original goal of this Podcast was to get local and underground artists. Until now the underground part was a part of the deal we never kept up, until today. Today we are posting our interview with Bay Area punk rock staple Jesse "Luscious" Townley. Jesse has been in numerous bands (The Blatz, The Criminals, The Frisk), worked for well known indie labels (Look Out!, Alternative Tentacles), worked several positions at Berkley's now famous Gillman St., written for several local and punk rock publications (including AMP), posts on sites like Punknews.org and is generally a kick ass individual.

The one fault about Mr. Luscious? The man can talk. The full unedited interview ran over 80 minutes long. Sadly, we had to edit a lot of the interview to save bandwidth and make it easily digestible. However, the whole, unedited interview is available for download on the site. The sound quality is slightly lower but that's to keep the file size down since it's so long.

Anyhow, please listen as this is probably the most interesting and well informed interview I've ever been lucky enough to be a part of. Hell, we even throw in some songs from The Frisk just to keep it interesting. And if that's not enough by listening you can learn what prompted Jesse to say, "With enough kicking the Smurfs will learn".

Interview with Jerry from Requiem - Podcast 2

You said it couldn't be done, and yet here we are again to bring you show number two! This time we share our bandwidth with Jerry, the lead vocalist for the band Requiem. For those of you who don't know, Requiem is a five piece out of Salinas. So what do they sound like? If you can't get your lazy ass to listen to the songs on the stream you don't deserve shit. Alright, so the reality is I don't know how exactly to classify them. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear them is old Thrice, I mean pre Artist in the Ambulance, and maybe even pre Illusion of Safety. Not that the necessarily sound alike, but the raw energy and the musical talent are definitely overriding factors. We contemplated labeling it "Butt Rock" but we make a couple of jokes at the bands expense (including an inability to remember Jerry's last name) and we don't want to upset them. In reality they're awesome musicians and nice guys, I promise.

I also promise some big interviews in the weeks to come. We're talking artist who have sold in the four figures and have toured not only America but other places (until we find out what to call places that aren't America they'll just be called Not-America). We're talking about people who have played in bands you might have heard of! At the moment I won't reveal any names because I know I'll fuck it up if I say anything. So, just hold tight and pray for us and any money would be appreciated.

Speaking of giving us stuff, I've decided we should have the tagline "Sound Scene Revolution: until you start paying us or giving us free stuff, we don't give a shit". I don't know if that's final but it's something I'm kicking around. Another idea was, "Sound Scene Revolution: it's what Lando Calrissian would want you to listen to". But that gets into a whole copyright issue. Interview with Meat Hammer - Podcast 1

So first off I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to listen to (or at least check out) our very first broadcast. I'll admit it's a little rough but it's our first show, so cut us some slack. We here at SSR are always looking to improve so please drop us a line, either on our comments section or at Soundscenerevolution@gmail.com. But, please spare us the "That band sucks" comments. If you're in a better band and you plan to be in the San Jose Area let us know and we'll gladly fuck up an interview with your band.

Anyhow, our first show is with San Jose aural masters Meat Hammer. We pretty much figured this was a good idea for a first show because the guys in the band are funny as hell and they're our friends, so if we mess up too bad we can always re-record it. If you have any trouble deciphering who is who just remember Ryan is the one who does most of the talking, Alex is the one who talks too loudly and sounds like he's swallowing the mic and Greg is the low gravely voice that says about five things and is in it for "chicks and money". Do them a favor and check them out on MySpace, or go to their shows. Just don't stand too close to Alex, especially if you're female and under 14 years old.

I hope you enjoy our show and be sure to check back every Tuesday for more updates, interviews and music form Bay Area locals and under ground artists. In addition, I hope to add sections to the site, like a news area and a Bay Area concert calendar. I do, however, work remarkably slow, on account of I usually use a computer solely to look at porn, so don't hold your breath.
