Interview with The Lawrence Arms – Podcast 62

Posted by rich on July 24, 2007

So, to the dismay of many of our fan, we are taking a break form the shit heap that is Warped Tour interviews to bring you something totally different, a band that was banned from Warped Tour, The Lawrence Arms. Actually, we’ll be running a few Asian Man Records interviews, in conjunction with their 11th Anniversary.

If you don’t know who the Lawrence Arms are by now I highly suggest you Google the city of Chicago and filter through the stories until you find them, go ahead, we’ll wait…So sit back and enjoy the tasty goodness as Chris, Brendan and Neil talk about Cornish Gay Men, concept albums, and why Brendan took the mic into the toilet during the interview. It’s a good (totally naked) time had by all.

Additionally, we’ll have a brand new ENTER TO WIN!!! featuring a variety of Asian Man releases. One winner gets a copy of both Dan Potthast albums, Lawrence Arms’ Cocktails and Dreams, the rerelease of Alkaline Trio’s Goddamnit, plus some other fun stuff. So listen and figure out how to get free crap!

Stay tuned until next week when we have more awesome stuff. And feel free to drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or in the comments section. And remember…freedom is on the March…and the May.

Interviews at Warped Tour 2007 (Part 1) – Podcast 61

Posted by rich on July 17, 2007

So, a week back into shows and it seems like my writer’s block has cleared up, yah! Unfortunately, you now have to (well I guess not “have to” but you should) listen to what is now known as “The Warped Tour shit-fest!”. Not that I have anything against the Warped Tour, I mean we had to apply for press Pass, which in and of itself is 90% more work than we normally do. So we had to want to get in. However, once inside the Warped Tour press tent, we entered a land where time and space functioned in odd, unexplainable ways. A world where Big D and the Kids Table weren’t listed on the interview schedule, but you could interview them if you asked the press lady about it. A world where that same press lady would continually feed you band after band of crap that you didn’t request and you didn’t know a thing about. In short, a world gone mad.

So out of the three interviews we wanted we got one. Still, we left with 7 interviews, that’s 6 whole interviews filled with bands we don’t know and people we don’t know what to ask. So sit back and enjoy the awkwardness of entire interviews where I avoid asking bands about their music, because I don’t know anything about them.

As far as contests go, we’re not going to ask bands on Warped Tour, making no money, to give us free shit. Sorry, but we’re not total assholes. But stay tuned for some real contests coming up soon. Also, say hi at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or in the comments. It’s so totally awesome it makes us forget that Al Qaeda is regrouping.

Interview with Cobra Skulls – Podcast 60

Posted by rich on July 10, 2007

So here it is, our first interview in like 6 weeks and I can’t think of a damn intro. It’s not like I don’t have enough to work with, Cobra Skulls, our guest, is a fucking fantastic band. And it’s not like it’s not topical, their new album, Sitting Army, came out today, July 10. I just can’t think of anything else to say. I can’t even try to be my typical, not funny self.

Well, the interview is rad. We have a copy of Cobra Skulls EP, Draw Muhamad, to give away. We’ll have Warped Tour interviews for the next three weeks (just a heads up, they all suck, sorry). And that’s it. Send us e-mails (soundscenerevolution@gmail.com), and MySpace and shit. Maybe I’ll be more talkative next week if you contact us.

Interview with Tim Barry – Podcast 51

Posted by rich on February 27, 2007

Hey all, just so ya know, we’re not actually late with this post. See, this episode we have our second artist on Suburban Home Records, Tim Barry, in as many weeks. I had a blog all set and ready to post and then I read this. Needless to say I was stunned, especially considering how generously Virgil hooked us up with give-away stuff these past two episodes. Suburban Home has always been one of those labels that put out quality bands, maybe not bands that sold millions of albums but that always made good music. They’ve been nothing but nice to me (both in my dealings as a mail order customer and in the podcast), which may not seem too odd but trust me, most labels aren’t too eager to help out a kid with a late order or some douche with a podcast. I really wish all the best to Virgil and everyone at Suburban Home/Dead Format/Vinyl Collective, these are the people who know what music is supposed to be about.

Much like Suburban Home is a dying breed of labels Tim Barry (this weeks guest) is a dying breed of musician. Tim isn’t a guy who makes music for fame, fans, drugs and certainly not for money. Tim makes music for himself and maybe (and this is just my take on it) he does it to exorcise a few demons. After meeting Tim two things are clear; 1, his music is a brutally honest self portrait and 2, he’s never going to be a rich man. So, check this interview out and hear how despair, hope and perseverance become music.

Like I mentioned Virgil hooked us up crazy, so let me lay out the contests:
Drag the River:
One (1) winner will get a t-shirt (medium), and a Drag the River beer cozy.
One (1) winner will get a t-shirt (medium), Drag the River beer Cozy, a DTR pint glass, a copy of DTR’s Closed and Hobo Demos (if you have either let us know and will give the album you have to another winner) and some stickers. Flippin’ Sweet!

So check that out and learn how to enter

For this week we have one (1) winner who will receive a copy of Tim Barry’s Rivanna Junction and a Tim Barry pint glass. That ain’t bad for not doing shit besides listening and sending an e-mail. So be sure to listen and hit us up at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, our MySpace and the comments section. Till next week.

Interview with Drag the River – Podcast 50

Posted by rich on February 20, 2007

So here it is our 50th episode. It’s like a birthday but it only took us about a year and a half to hit 50 as opposed to 50 years, so we’re well aged, mature and dignified all without having to wear an adult diaper.

What better way to celebrate this podcasting milestone than with a funny interview with America’s favorite drinkers, Drag the River. Seriously, Sound Guy Nariman and I celebrated by letting me get so drunk at the Drag the River show I vomited on the way home (mom must be proud). No matter my poor inebriation it made for one hell of an interview as John and Chad talk about music, booze and a Mule named Francis.

To commemorate this, our 50th episode, we have a whole shit can of ENTER TO WIN!!!’s. We’re still running our contests for Only Crime, New Mexican Disaster Squad (check those interviews for how to enter) and a brand new one for Drag the River! Be sure to check it out to win some free shwag. Be sure to send us anniversary cards to SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, our MySpace and the comments section. As always, enjoy the show, because we enjoyed making it (but not vomiting afterwards).

Interview with Nothington – Podcast 46

Posted by rich on January 16, 2007

Hey there podcastees. Well after starting off the New Year with a mediocre fizzle we’ve decided to kick things up a notch by bringing you a new, up and coming, state of the art, highly improved, version 30.6…you get the idea. So who could be worth all this praise? I’ll give you a hint it’s a band with members who have been in Tsunami Bomb, Enemy You and Time Spent Driving. If you guessed Nothington, you’re absolutely magical!

Nothington is amazing for more reason than band association. These guys managed to go from their first show to the release of their first album in six months! Add to that the fact that they’re the first new band on BYO Records in two years. Then multiply that by their music which is an awesome blend of beardcore and punk rock and you have an equation for awesome. Trust me, in two years you’re going to want to be able to tell all you friends that you liked these guys first.

If all the rocking awesomeness isn’t reason enough to listen perhaps the chance to ENTER TO WIN!!! a copy of Nothington’s debut 7″ and a Nothington t-shirt (size large) is reason enough. Be sure to check out the last eight minutes to learn how to enter. As we usually beg feel free to hit us up at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on our MySpace or on the comments section on the main page. And remember, if you don’t listen to the internet, it will listen to you.

Interview with A Wilhelm Scream – Podcast 33

Posted by rich on August 29, 2006

This week we have something even more exciting than a debacle in a ten year old murder case, that’s right it’s A Wilhelm Scream (not just an exciting sound effect). These Massachusans are not only the kings of soon to be pin up teen heart throbs, they’re also one of the best young technical punk bands around. We got the chance to talk with Nuno and new bassist Brian (and knowing how this band goes through bassists this may be the only time you hear from him) about such fine topics as touring, being recognized at Best Buy and how awesomely unawesome Warped Tour is. We even took time to tackle the big issues regarding Dexter Holland and Anarchy Airlines!

EXTRA SPECIAL BONUS PANDA FUN TIME!!!: Once again Justin from PunkNews.Org finagled his way onto the show. I’m not sure about the details about how he got on the show but I believe it has something to do with me asking him. Anyhow, he throws a couple of funny lines out there so keep an ear out for him.

Finally, we have a new contest were you can win a FREE copy of A Wilhelm Scream’s The Benefits of Thinking Out Loud and a CAN COZY! It’s like Christmas in your internet and A Wilhelm Scream is coming! Be sure to listen to the last 8 minutes or so to learn how to enter. And your continued contact through SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, our MySpace and the comments section always makes us smile (even if it’s only at your horrible grammar). So keep coming back and we’ll keep asking the questions you never wanted to know the answers to.

Interviews at Warped Tour (Part 2) – Podcast 30

Posted by rich on August 8, 2006

This week we bring you the fantastic second edition of our Warped Tour interviews. So sit back and enjoy music and interviews from The Living end and Every Time I Die. One band is Australian and plays an upright bass, one is American and has a music video featuring Michael Madsen, I’ll let you decide who is who. However, I will tell you that urine, Revolver magazine, and giant hair is discussed.
As these bands are both much to famous to give us stuff (and we didn’t want to ask as Warped Tour is draining enough) we will simply be running our Akimbo contest for another week. So check out the end of last weeks broadcast to learn how to enter to win fabulous prizes. As always, you can hit us up at SoundSceneRevolution@gmail.com, on MySpace or under the comments section. Enjoy and check back next week for continued heights of awesomeness.
